Metro Manila Braces for Heavy Traffic Due to Ongoing Gov't Projects Until Year-End
Motorists in Metro Manila should brace for significant traffic congestion in parts of Manila, Quezon City, and Parañaque due to ongoing roadworks and infrastructure projects scheduled to continue until December. Authorities are advising the public to use alternate routes.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Monday, July 6, advised motorists to expect heavier traffic in parts of Manila, Quezon City and Parañaque because of roadwork and improvement activities that would continue until December. “Motorists are advised to take alternate routes and allow extra travel time in the affected areas,” it said in an advisory. One of the ongoing projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is the rehabilitation and major repair of Legarda Bridge in Manila, with a completion date of Sept. 20. Tuazon and Lardizabal Streets) until Sept. 18; Manga Street (Piña Avenue to Buenos Aires Street) until July 25; M. Dela Fuente Street (España to Magsaysay Boulevards) until Dec. 1; Ma. Clara Street (between Dimasalang and Maceda Streets) until Aug. 31; Blumentritt Road (between Dapitan and M.J. Santonio Streets) until Sept. 12; and Dapitan Street (between A. Mendoza Street and A.H. Lacson Avenue) until Aug. 28. The Department of Transportation, on the other hand, is installing a storm drainage network system for the Metro Rail Transit 7’s (MRT 7) Station 11 on Quirino Highway in Barangay Greater Lagro, Quezon City until Dec. 27. Meralco has also started replacing and installing concrete poles, wires and related accessories on Timog Avenue between Scout Tobias and Scout Tuazon Streets, and along Kalayaan Avenue, between Masigla Extension and Maparaan Street.
