Hanoi Allocates Over VND 10.3 Billion for National Day Commemorative Gifts

Ahead of the 81st anniversary of Vietnam's National Day on September 2nd, the Hanoi City People's Committee is implementing a program to present gifts to individuals who have made contributions to the revolution. The total budget allocated for this initiative is over VND 10.399 billion (approximately USD 410,000). This program is part of a broader effort by the Vietnamese government to express gratitude and provide support to those who have contributed to the nation's independence and development, thereby enhancing the welfare of social policy beneficiaries. Similar initiatives have been reported previously, where various entities, including the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, local governments, and National Assembly deputies, have visited and presented gifts to individuals with meritorious services and their families on occasions such as National Day and the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs. For instance, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union visited and presented gifts to meritorious individuals in Nghe An province. Can Tho City conducted similar visits within its jurisdiction, and leaders in Dong Nai province also met with and gifted those who contributed to the revolution. High-ranking officials, including a General, have also visited meritorious individuals in Gia Lai province. Furthermore, the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, Nguyen Thi Thanh, visited policy beneficiaries and individuals with meritorious services in Dak Lak province. These activities are considered important policy tools within Vietnam's one-party system to encourage loyalty and contribution to the nation, and to maintain social cohesion. As Vietnam continues its economic growth, social welfare policies are also being expanded, and these expressions of gratitude towards meritorious individuals are thought to help strengthen the foundation of national unity. In the context of relations with China, the historical narrative of maintaining national sovereignty and independence plays a significant role in fostering patriotism among the populace.
