Cambodia Government Showcases Skills Development and Job Opportunities for Returning Migrant Workers

Media representatives and union leaders from national news outlets visited the Techo Sen Svay Rieng Regional Polytechnic Institute to gain firsthand understanding of the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training's programs aimed at supporting former Cambodian migrant workers returning from Thailand. The initiatives focus on skills development, recognition of prior work experience, and connecting them with local employment opportunities. This visit was part of the government's efforts to demonstrate to the public and stakeholders the concrete measures being implemented to help returning former migrant workers find decent employment, increase their income, and live stably in the country. During the visit, participants observed the process of skills assessment, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), skills training, and received information on employment programs from the National Employment Agency (NEA). The NEA is actively connecting former migrant workers with job opportunities in factories, enterprises, and special economic zones within Svay Rieng province and neighboring areas. The delegation also met with former Cambodian migrant workers who had returned from Thailand, who shared their experiences of receiving government support, skills recognition, additional training, and securing new jobs that match their capabilities. Mr. Sun Mesa, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, stated, "The government's support for former migrant workers returning from Thailand is not just about welcoming them back home, but about continuing to create opportunities for them to acquire skills that meet labor market demands, secure decent jobs, and build their future in Cambodia." He added that the Techo Sen Svay Rieng Regional Polytechnic Institute plays a crucial role in producing skilled human resources to meet the demands of the industrial sector, especially in the special economic zones and various factories in Svay Rieng province, which have a growing need for skilled labor. The visit underscored the government's commitment to prioritizing former migrant workers returning from Thailand through skills development, job creation, and improving their living standards, in line with Cambodia's human resource development policies and sustainable development progress. It is noteworthy that the Techo Sen Svay Rieng Regional Polytechnic Institute has conducted skills assessments for electric welding for 160 former Cambodian migrant workers returning from Thailand, with 122 receiving qualification certificates and 38 receiving credit certificates.
