Two women killed in junta airstrike on the same day ASEAN urged an immediate cessation of hostilities

Two women were killed in a junta airstrike in Karen State on the same day the ASEAN Special Envoy reiterated the call for an immediate cessation of hostilities, which is one of the five points of the consensus agreement. The ASEAN Special Envoy met with the junta on July 12 and 13 and reiterated the call for the implementation of the five-point consensus. However, the junta dropped 22 bombs from a Y-12 aircraft into the villages of Let Kyo Taw, Hae Aung, Shae Day, and Maw Pu in Mue Township on July 13, killing two women aged 65 and 57, the Karen Peace Support Network (KPSN) announced on July 15. According to the statement, on July 12, four bombs were dropped from a jet fighter and 36 bombs from an aircraft into the village of Telay Gyi in Luthaw Township. Three men aged eight, 19, and 41, and one woman aged 35 were injured in the attack. "When the military's actions are heading in the opposite direction, how can the people of Myanmar or ethnic armed revolutionary organizations trust the military's peace process? " said Naw Wah Khu Shee from KPSN. Two shops, 16 houses, one paddy granary, and two motorcycles were destroyed in the junta's attacks over the two days. KPSN stated that although ASEAN continued to hold onto the five-point consensus and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the junta responded by further intensifying its terrorist offensive. Therefore, KPSN urged ASEAN to completely refrain from normal relations or official engagement with the junta unless there is concrete evidence that the junta is implementing the five-point consensus.
