Two Thai soldiers sustained minor injuries after stepping on an old landmine during maintenance work at the Phu Pha military base, located near the Cambodian border in eastern Thailand. The incident occurred around 10:30 AM on May XX, 2024, when soldiers from the 122nd Infantry Battalion were clearing an area for firing practice. Sergeant Jakgrit Buakaew, a squad leader of a 40mm L60 anti-aircraft gun unit, reportedly stepped directly on the old landmine. While the explosion was incomplete, it caused bruising and swelling to his right foot and ankle, along with a slight feeling of compression. Sergeant Sathit Phongkaew, a gunner from the same unit, was hit by flying debris and soil from the blast. Although he did not sustain deep wounds, he underwent a medical examination as a precaution. Both injured soldiers were immediately evacuated from the base and transported to Kantralak Hospital for treatment. Their conditions are reported to be stable, with no life-threatening injuries. The landmine is believed to be a remnant from a previous conflict. The Second Army Area Command is continuing safety checks in the vicinity of the base to prevent similar incidents. Source: INN News
