Lai Chau Ginseng: Vietnam Pushes Branding and Sustainable Development

On the afternoon of September 19, Lai Châu Province, in coordination with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science and Technology, organized a scientific conference titled 'Lai Châu Ginseng - Essence of the Northwest Highlands.' The conference was attended by leaders from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Science and Technology, Lai Châu Province, as well as representatives from international organizations, experts, scientists, associations, and investors from both within and outside the province. Discussions at the conference focused on building and protecting the brand of Lai Châu Ginseng, transferring science and technology for its development, and formulating conservation and development plans to help local ethnic communities escape poverty and achieve prosperity. It was emphasized that this ginseng, recognized as a 4-star OCOP (One Commune One Product) item, plays a crucial role in establishing sustainable livelihoods in the mountainous region. The border guards are also assisting residents in cultivating ginseng. Under Vietnam's one-party system, revitalizing local economies is a key national policy. The branding of specialty products utilizing regional resources, particularly in geographically rich areas, directly contributes to increasing local incomes and reducing poverty. In relations with China, Vietnam aims to achieve economic independence and diversification while maintaining strategic partnerships in resource development and trade. The case of Lai Châu Ginseng exemplifies Vietnam's efforts to enhance the added value of its agricultural products and strengthen competitiveness in the international market.
