LTO Summons Road Rage Rider, Suspends License Amid Viral Incident

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned a rider involved in a viral road rage incident in Marikina City and placed their driver's license under a 90-day preventive suspension. According to a police report cited by the LTO, the suspect allegedly shouted at another motorcycle rider, leading to a heated confrontation. The altercation resulted in physical injuries and damage to the victim's vehicle. The LTO issued a show cause order (SCO) to the suspect, requiring them to appear for a hearing on Friday, July 24. They must submit a verified explanation or comment on why their driver's license should not be suspended or revoked for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle. During the investigation, the driver's license is under preventive suspension for 90 days, and the license is ordered to be surrendered during the hearing. "Failure on your part to attend/submit your Comment/Explanation shall be considered as a waiver of your right to attend/submit the same and this Office shall proceed and complete the investigation in its absence. You may opt to be assisted by a counsel during the investigation," a portion of the SCO read. In addition, the suspect's motorcycle is also under alarm status. LTO Chairperson Markus Lacanilao warned motorists that they will face consequences if they resort to violence while on the road. "A license to operate a vehicle is not just a permission to be on the road but to prove that a motorist can enforce their discipline at any given situation. If the discipline is gone, those who violate the rules shall face the law," Lacanilao said.
