South African National's Body Found in Bali Forest, Identity Confirmed

A decomposed male body was discovered in a kneeling position in the Sangyang Forest, Jatiluwih Village, Penebel District, Tabanan Regency, Bali, more than a week after its discovery. Tabanan Police have identified the deceased as ACL, a 53-year-old South African national, after finding an iPhone 13 at the scene that contained his medical identification (Medical ID). According to Kasi Humas Polres Tabanan Iptu Ni Luh Putu Wiwik Endrayani, the iPhone found at the scene contained medical information registered under the victim's name. This led to the identification of the deceased. Immigration records indicate that ACL had been staying in a homestay in the Peliatan area, Ubud District, Gianyar Regency. Furthermore, investigations led to a homestay in Jatiluwih, where management confirmed the victim had booked a room from June 9th to 15th. However, he left the homestay on June 13th and never returned. Several of his belongings, including an iPhone and a MacBook, were left behind in the room and bore the same Medical ID as the phone found at the scene. Homestay staff also identified a bag found with the body as belonging to the victim. While the victim's identity has been confirmed, the cause of death is still pending further examination. Investigators have conducted an autopsy and will proceed with forensic toxicology tests. Polres Tabanan is also coordinating with the Immigration Department and the South African Consulate for further handling of the case. Previously, residents were alarmed by the discovery of an unidentified body in the middle of the Sangyang Forest. Iptu Endrayani stated that the body was found by residents on Sunday morning, June 28th. The body was already in a state of decomposition. "The witness smelled an unpleasant odor while in the vicinity.
