Laddaland Indonesia Version: Director Awi Suryadi Highlights Cultural and Temporal Updates

JAKARTA - Director Awi Suryadi officially worked on the remake of the iconic Thai horror film, Laddaland. Carrying the title of Laddaland Housing, this Indonesian version is said to appear fresher with adjustments to the time and cultural background that are more relevant for local audiences. "Of course it is more updated, because if it is in Thailand it is 2011, if it is now it is 2026. So we are more up to date with the current situation," said Awi Suryadi when met in Central Jakarta, Thursday, August 6. Not only about time, Awi also gave more in-depth details to the supporting characters that were not too highlighted in the original version. "In the Thai version, we don't know the character of ART. Here, we even give her the name Neng, we introduce her to the audience," explained Awi. Other adjustments were also made to the neighbor's character to provide emotional closeness to the audience. "The neighbor who was possessed, we don't know who (in the Thai version). Here I know, her name is Ani," added the director who was successful with Danur. Despite making many adaptations, Awi admitted that he did not feel the pressure from the original director, Sopon Sukdapis. "No. He was from the beginning to free us to adapt according to our culture, according to the current time. I really like him," said Awi Suryadi proudly. Andri Mashadi, who plays the main male character, realizes that comparisons with the original version are inevitable. "If the problem of comparing is that I think it comes back to each person's preferences," said Andri Mashadi. Andri emphasized that the team had worked hard to give new life to the script rewritten by Lele Laila. "This is a remake adaptation script that has been creatively executed by Mas Awi and the MD team. We feel that we have given our best," he said. Titi Kamal also gave notes about the genre of this film which he thought was more than just a normal horror film. "This is different from the previous ones because this is a psychological thriller and psychological horror. So our minds and minds are really tested," said Titi Kamal. The shooting process also went smoothly because of the chemistry that was built during the preparation period. "We have practiced 2-3 weeks together to discuss all kinds of chemistry. Everything is really good and very professional," continued Titi Kamal. Closing his statement, Awi Suryadi emphasized that he wanted to create a gripping residential atmosphere. "The most difficult thing is to create the atmosphere. Because we are not just moving in one house, we are setting the housing," concluded Awi. This film produced by MD Pictures will also be starring Anantya Kirana, Shakeel Fauzi Aisy, Delia Husein, Adjis Doa Ibu to Arief Didu. The film is scheduled to be released on August 13 in all Indonesian cinemas.
