Lao Cai Province: Road connecting National Highway 32 to Provincial Road 174 Cut Off by Heavy Rain, Traffic Re-routed

In Phinh Ho village, Lao Cai province, northern Vietnam, a severe landslide caused by heavy rains has completely destroyed the roadbed and surface of the road connecting National Highway 32 to Provincial Road 174. The Lao Cai Department of Construction has banned traffic in this area and implemented temporary traffic control measures since 3:30 PM on September 17th. This incident highlights the vulnerability to natural disasters that frequently occur in northern Vietnam. Particularly in mountainous areas like Lao Cai province, the risk of landslides and flash floods increases during the rainy season. The province has previously undertaken measures such as emergency evacuation of residents from areas at risk of landslides, intensifying its vigilance against disasters associated with climate change. The current road blockage could impact the regional economy and residents' lives. Specifically, the disruption of essential transportation routes for goods and people may lead to supply chain disruptions and hinder inter-regional exchange.
