Thin Ma Village in Magway’s Myaing Township burned for two consecutive days

Mizzima The bodies of slain local residents have been discovered in Myaing Township, Magway Region, where junta columns are advancing, and Thin Ma village has been set on fire for two consecutive days, from 21 to 22 July, according to the Anya Myay Civil Society Organization (Myaing). “We learned that Thin Ma is being burned today. The arson started yesterday and continues today. Thin Ma has about 500 households, and we understand the majority of them are burning. While the exact extent of the damage cannot yet be confirmed, we can confirm massive destruction due to the two-day consecutive arson,” a representative of the Anya Myay CSO (Myaing) told Mizzima on 22 July. The military column currently operating in Myaing Township advanced from Thauk Shar Pin village in Pauk Township, Magway Region, on 13 July, and remains stationed in Thin Ma village today. Between 13 July and today, the bodies of victims killed by the junta have been recovered across several locations: Two elderly men from Kan Net village, one man from Myin Ko Thit village, one man from Kaing Taw Ma village, one man from Wah Yin Chyaing village, two men and one burned body from Kun Lat village, seven burned bodies in Baw Ton village and one elderly man in Than Chaung village. “The victim from Than Chaung was an elderly man, around 60 to 70 years old. He suffered from mental illness. He was beaten severely to death, with his skull crushed,” the Anya Myay CSO representative said.Due to the ongoing military offensive, approximately 15,000 residents from about 10 villages in Myaing Township are currently displaced. In addition to Thin Ma, other villages in Myaing Township — including Kan Net, Let Khoke Pin, Nyaung Kone, Kaing Taw Ma, and Htan Nge Taw — have also suffered arson attacks. During the junta’s first offensive in Myaing Township in June, six locals were killed: one from Thar Si village (southern Myaing), one from Hnan Si Kan village, two from Meiktila village, one from Wet Poke village, and one from Kone village. The junta also killed five locals, including a woman with a mental health condition, in Thauk Shar Pin village, Pauk Township, according to statements released by the Anya Myay CSO (Myaing).
