Cambodia Boosts Morale in Illegal Fishing Crackdown, Enhances Resource Protection Support

In Cambodia's Kampong Thom province, supplies were delivered to joint forces engaged in the crackdown on illegal fishing. On September 22, 2026, Major General Saom Son, Commander of the Kampong Thom Provincial Military Operations Area and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial Commission for Natural Resource Crime Prevention, Control, and Suppression, handed over 400 liters of fuel, food, essential goods, and cash to the joint forces stationed to prevent, control, and suppress illegal fishing in the border areas of Stung and Kampong Svay districts. During the occasion, Major General Saom Son praised the joint forces for their dedication in combating illegal fishing in the border areas of Stung district, Kampong Thom province, and Chikrey district, Siem Reap province. He particularly commended the successful cooperation with forces from the Siem Reap Provincial Military Operations Area and the Region 4 Military Command during operations over the past week in the first half of September 2026, noting the excellent results achieved. During the occasion, Major General Saom Son instructed and assigned tasks to the joint forces to continue their efforts in combating illegal fishing, especially the use of illegal gillnets, electric shockers, and densely woven nets, during this fishing ban period, emphasizing a no-retreat policy to achieve further success. Major General Saom Son provided 400 liters of fuel, food, essential goods, and cash for the repair of boats that were damaged during previous missions. Concurrently, all joint forces pledged to implement the orders of the Commander of the Kampong Thom Provincial Military Operations Area to ensure success in restoring fish stocks to meet the needs of the nation and the Cambodian people nationwide.
