Hanoi Capital Region Ring Road 5: Over 78 Trillion VND for Compensation and Resettlement

The Vietnamese government has submitted a proposal to the National Assembly for consideration and decision on the investment policy for the construction project of the Hanoi Capital Region Ring Road 5. According to the preliminary feasibility study, the project is expected to require approximately 4,010 hectares of land. This includes 1,776 hectares of rice fields, 464 hectares of residential land, 209 hectares of forest land, 9.5 hectares of national defense land, and about 1,550 hectares of other land types. The project is anticipated to resettle around 6,970 households, with total compensation, support, and resettlement costs estimated at approximately 78.14 trillion VND (around 3.1 billion USD). Of this amount, the main highway section alone accounts for 49.85 trillion VND, with the remainder allocated for parallel roads and related infrastructure. This Ring Road 5 project aims to enhance transportation infrastructure in Vietnam's capital region and further stimulate regional economic development. The large-scale land acquisition and subsequent resident relocation are common challenges in development projects under Vietnam's one-party system, and the impact of its smooth implementation on the local community will be closely watched.
