Myanmar-Laos relations upgraded to strategic partnership level

The most significant achievement during the state visit of Head of State President U Min Aung Hlaing to Laos was the upgrading of Myanmar-Laos bilateral relations to a strategic partnership, according to Dr. Khai Khai Soe, the spokesperson for the Head of State's Office. Dr. Khai Khai Soe responded to media inquiries regarding the Head of State's visit to Laos in this manner. Furthermore, during this visit, agreements were reached on matters such as joint feasibility studies for hydropower projects along the Mekong River basin and the signing of a memorandum of understanding on labor affairs. Discussions were also held on establishing ties between Naypyidaw and Vientiane as sister cities, operating direct flights between Kengtung and Luang Prabang, increasing border region trade, and exchanging information on combating drugs and online scams. Laos is a country with which Myanmar has had diplomatic relations for over 70 years, and the peoples of both countries have maintained friendly relations for centuries. Dr. Khai Khai Soe stated that when Laos served as the ASEAN Chair in 2024, it fully supported Myanmar, and Myanmar also fully stood by Laos.
