Jakarta Aims to Streamline Business Permits with New 2026 Target

The Jakarta Provincial Government plans to overhaul its business permit application process to make it simpler and faster. The target is to achieve 'Level 5' service standards by 2026, ensuring clear completion times for new investors and businesses to experience genuine ease. Yustinus Prastowo, Coordinator of Special Staff to the Governor of DKI Jakarta, emphasized the necessity of improving procedures so that businesses truly feel the convenience when applying for permits. "We are aiming for Level 5 best practices in terms of how many days or hours we can provide to potential investors and business actors, so they truly feel the ease," he stated, adding that the implementation of a Service Level Agreement (SLA) will provide certainty regarding the time required for the process. According to Prastowo, despite Jakarta having implemented a One-Stop Integrated Service (PTSP), the process on the ground can still involve numerous parties, leading to complexities. He explained the evolution from needing to visit individual offices to the establishment of integrated services like Samsat and PTSP, but noted that "there are still many windows." The provincial government aims to ensure that supporting units or processes do not force businesses to navigate multiple pathways again when applying for permits. "The windows are for ventilation, not for entry. The entry is still one," Prastowo remarked, highlighting the commitment to simplification. He assessed that certainty and speed in permit services are crucial for strengthening Jakarta's investment climate, especially as the city is increasingly directed towards becoming a hub for services and trade, requiring an efficient business ecosystem supported by streamlined regulations and administration. Jakarta's economy grew by 5.52% in the second quarter of 2026, contributing 16.32% to the national economy. The wholesale and retail trade sector alone contributed 18.24%, underscoring the direct link between a conducive business environment and economic growth.
