Cambodia Partners with South Korea on Renewable Energy Projects

Cambodia is strengthening its collaboration with the Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) to accelerate the development of sustainable energy sources. On July 23, 2026, H.E. Ponhea Sachak, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, led discussions at the ministry's headquarters concerning the technical and procedural coordination for renewable energy projects at the Doun Tri Reservoir in Battambang province and the Raksa Reservoir in Preah Vihear province. Following the presentation of preliminary reports on floating solar and ground solar power projects planned for both locations, H.E. Ponhea Sachak instructed the Korean side to engage in prior consultations with relevant ministries and institutions, including the Ministry of Mines and Energy and Electricité du Cambodge. For matters falling under the ministry's purview, he assured that procedures and related documents would be facilitated. The Secretary of State emphasized that the Cambodian government welcomes and is prepared to cooperate with the Korean side, as well as all development partners interested in investing in the water resources sector. He further requested the Korean side to review the feasibility of 14 out of the 16 projects previously proposed by them. This collaboration is part of Cambodia's broader strategy to enhance its energy security and reduce its reliance on fossil fuels. The nation aims to secure cleaner and more sustainable energy supplies to support its economic growth. The partnership with K-water offers an opportunity to leverage South Korea's advanced water management and renewable energy technologies.
