Hue City Warns Against Forged Personnel Documents Amidst Online Disinformation

Hue City in central Vietnam issued an official warning on the 24th regarding forged personnel decision documents circulating on social media. The Hue Smart City Operations Center (HueIOC) denied the authenticity of a document titled "Decision No. 252-QĐNS/TW," which was falsely attributed to the city and claimed to be related to personnel approvals. This incident heightens concerns over disinformation and information manipulation, which have been on the rise in Vietnam in recent years. Previously, the Ministry of Health had warned against forged documents concerning the functions of medical facilities, and an individual in An Giang province was fined for spreading false information about crocodiles appearing in a canal. Furthermore, instances of fraud using impersonated websites of the Ministry of Finance and the spread of false information related to data breaches in cyberspace have also been identified, underscoring the critical importance of information management in the online space. Under Vietnam's one-party communist system, information control is a crucial aspect of state governance, and the government maintains a strict stance against the spread of disinformation and inflammatory content. While the internet's proliferation has enriched citizens' lives amidst Vietnam's continued economic growth, it has also increased the risks of such information manipulation. Specifically, forged documents related to personnel can damage organizational credibility and potentially lead to social unrest, prompting authorities to demand swift action.
