Fighting to resume in Mawtoung City, security advisories issued for public, over 500 junta soldiers eliminated in city defense over a year

Yangon, July 11 In Mawtoung City, Tanintharyi Township, Tanintharyi Region, revolutionary forces are ready to resume fighting, and BLACK COBRA COLUMN has issued security advisories for the public to follow. It is reported that the military council launched an offensive to regain control of the Tanintharyi-Mawtoung road starting in December 2024, targeting Mawtoung City, which was occupied by revolutionary forces. The revolutionary forces were able to defend and fight for 1 year and 4 months despite facing disparities in manpower, ammunition, and technology. During this period, although revolutionary forces occupied Mawtoung City and controlled it for about 6 months, starting from April 2026, the military council launched an intense offensive with a large force comprising two tactical divisions and 11 battalions, conducting ground assaults, aerial bombings, and attacks using heavy weapons and drones. Consequently, due to prolonged fighting leading to the exhaustion of revolutionary force members and increased civilian casualties from the military council's aerial attacks, Mawtoung City and the Hton Kha-Mawtoung road section were strategically withdrawn from on May 6, 2026. According to BLACK COBRA COLUMN, over 500 junta soldiers were killed and more than 1,000 were injured during the 1 year and 4 months of Mawtoung City's defense. Additionally, 46 junta soldiers defected to the revolutionary forces, bringing 37 weapons with them. On the revolutionary side, 51 comrades were killed, 13 comrades lost limbs, and many others sustained injuries. "This summarizes the situation over one year and four months, from December 2024 until we withdrew from Mawtoung City. It represents the entire defensive period from when the military council began its offensive on Mawtoung," an official from BLACK COBRA COLUMN told Khit Thit Media. BLACK COBRA COLUMN has announced that 53 prisoners of war were captured during the battle for Mawtoung City, and detailed information related to this will be released separately. Currently, revolutionary comrades have completed their rest and refitting and are in a ready state for combat, according to BLACK COBRA COLUMN. Furthermore, local residents have been advised not to allow cargo vehicles to pass through the section from the Mawtoung City entrance (Naksa Gate) to Village No. 9. If travel is necessary, only cars and motorcycles should be used. The section from Hton Kha junction to Village No. 9 has been designated as a special prohibited zone, and individuals passing through this area are urged to strictly adhere to the warnings, as they may be mistakenly targeted as military objectives. In addition, individuals collaborating with the military council, providing information, gathering intelligence, or assisting them will be identified and effectively punished. Vehicles carrying personnel, weapons, ammunition, or other materials related to the military council will be considered military targets, and transportation of such items is prohibited, according to the warning.
