An Giang Province Holds Ceremony Commemorating Heroes, Fallen Soldiers, and Contributors

An Giang Province in southern Vietnam solemnly held a ceremony on July 27 at the Provincial Heroes, Fallen Soldiers, and Contributors Memorial in Rach Gia ward to honor heroes, fallen soldiers, and individuals who have contributed to the nation. This event coincided with the 79th anniversary of Vietnam's War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2026). A delegation from the Central Public Security Party Committee participated, demonstrating their commitment to "giving back" efforts in An Giang. The ceremony also acknowledged the repatriation of 12 sets of martyrs' remains collected in Kep province and 81 sets from Kampong Speu province, Cambodia. These repatriations are part of the initiative to "return names to the fallen soldiers," bringing them back to their homeland. Under Vietnam's one-party system, ceremonies commemorating fallen soldiers and contributors play a significant role in fostering patriotism and national loyalty. In recent years, remains repatriation efforts, including those from overseas, have become more active, serving as a symbol of respect for past war sacrifices and national unity. Despite continuous economic growth, Vietnam engages in such historical and cultural events to reinforce national identity and cohesion. While historical perspectives are shared with China, complex national interests also exist. Strengthening domestic unity provides a stable foundation for foreign policy.
