Southwest Monsoon Brings Moderate to Heavy Rain to Over 20 Areas in Philippines
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that the southwest monsoon (habagat) is expected to bring moderate to heavy rain to over 20 areas, primarily in Luzon, within the next 24 hours. The risk of floods and landslides remains.
MANILA, Philippines – Nearly two dozen provinces, almost all in Luzon, are seeing significant rainfall due to the southwest monsoon or habagat in the next 24 hours, the weather bureau’s 11 am advisory showed on Wednesday, September 9. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the southwest monsoon is still affecting Luzon and the Visayas, with rain expected to be heaviest in the following areas: Wednesday noon, September 9, to Thursday noon, September 10 Moderate to heavy rain (50-100 millimeters): La Union, Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Mountain Province, Quirino, Aurora, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Benguet, Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, Romblon, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, Camarines Sur, Albay, Aklan, Antique Thursday noon, September 10, to Friday noon, September 11 Heavy to intense rain (100-200 mm): Occidental Mindoro Moderate to heavy rain (50-100 mm): Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Catanduanes, Aklan, Antique Friday noon, September 11, to Saturday noon, September 12 Moderate to heavy rain (50-100 mm): Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Pangasinan, La Union On Wednesday, other parts of Luzon and the Visayas not mentioned above could have isolated to scattered rain or thunderstorms from the southwest monsoon. Floods and landslides remain possible. So far, there are no new low pressure areas (LPAs) or potential tropical cyclones inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). But PAGASA reiterated on Wednesday morning that it is not ruling out the possibility of LPA formation during the week. The weather bureau expects two or three tropical cyclones to develop within or enter PAR in September. The next three local tropical cyclone names are Queenie, Rosal, and Samuel. – Rappler.com
