Cambodia to Host International Conference on Combating Tech Scams, Demonstrating Political Will and Responsibility

Cambodia is set to host the "International Conference on Combating Technological Scams" from September 23 to 24, 2026, in Phnom Penh, under the theme: "Together Towards Breaking the Chain and Ending Online Scams." Minister of Information, H.E. Net Pheaktra, stated that Cambodia's hosting of this conference is not merely an international event but a significant demonstration of the Cambodian government's political will, responsibility, and openness. It also serves as a crucial call for other nations and the international community to take collective action against technological scams. These remarks were made during a press conference on September 18, 2026, at the Ministry of Information. H.E. Net Pheaktra emphasized that technological scams are a shared problem for the region and the world. He acknowledged that Cambodia recognizes technological scams as a serious issue and is itself a victim of these transnational crimes. He added, "Cambodia is cooperating with the world to resolve this issue, including with China, the United States, South Korea, Japan, Australia, ASEAN countries, and other nations." Meanwhile, H.E. Mok Chanthouth, Secretary of State of the Council of Ministers and Vice Chairman of the Content Sub-Committee, explained that online scams are complex, interconnected issues involving organized criminal networks spanning multiple countries. Therefore, the Prime Minister decided to organize this international conference to gather senior officials, policymakers, and law enforcement officers from various nations to discuss and exchange perspectives on combating these technological scam activities. He also noted that the organization of this event is supported by three international organizations. H.E. Mok Chanthouth further elaborated on the three main objectives of the conference: First, to understand the rapid and complex evolution of technological scam offenses. Second, to enhance cooperation, as these are transnational crimes that no single country can combat alone.
