Nationwide power outage occurs

A power outage (System Breakdown) occurred nationwide around 5:26 PM on September 19 due to a fault on the 230kV Shwetaung-Mawngmataw transmission lines No. 1 and No. 2, the Ministry of Electricity and Energy announced. While responsible staff were inspecting the faulty 230kV Shwetaung-Mawngmataw transmission lines on-site, efforts were made to connect and restore the power system as quickly as possible through other power plants to prevent delays in power supply, it was said. As a result, power began to be transmitted in stages from the Paunglaung Power Plant starting at 5:38 PM and from the Ye Ywa Power Plant at 6:00 PM, and power continued to be transmitted to the Hlaingthaya substation. Despite the successful connection and transmission, due to high demand from consumers, a balance between power generation and consumption could not be maintained, and another system breakdown occurred at 6:52 PM due to frequency fluctuations (Frequency Swing), and efforts are still ongoing, the Ministry of Electricity and Energy announced. Power was reportedly restored around 8:00 PM, according to statements from Yangon residents.
