Vietnam: Border Women Support Program, 2026-2030 Plan Signed

A significant program implementation plan aimed at improving the lives and supporting women living in border areas has been formulated in Nghe An province, north-central Vietnam. On September 9, the Hanoi Women's Union, the Nghe An Women's Union, and the Nghe An Border Guard signed a cooperation plan for the implementation of the 'Accompanying Border Women' program for the period 2026-2030. This program, as part of Vietnam's socialist-oriented market economy policies under its one-party system, focuses particularly on women in economically vulnerable border regions. Past reports indicate that Nghe An has already undertaken initiatives such as completing literacy classes for H'Mong women in border areas, supporting temporary and dilapidated housing for children of individuals affected by chemical toxins from the war, and fostering hope through humanitarian policies in border regions. The new plan is expected to build upon these past achievements and establish a more long-term support system. The Vietnamese government, while continuing economic growth, is also focusing on reducing regional disparities and improving social welfare. Border areas, in particular, are strategically important from both a security perspective and for their potential economic development. While the specific details of this program are yet to be finalized by the relevant agencies, it is anticipated that the focus will be on supporting women's economic independence, providing educational opportunities, promoting health, and enhancing community participation.
