Authorities Crack Down on Illegally Parked Container Trucks on National Road 4

Authorities in Cambodia have taken action against illegally parked container trucks along National Road 4, near Phnom Penh, after repeated warnings failed to resolve persistent traffic congestion and disruptions to local businesses. The administrative forces of Por Senchey District, in cooperation with the Unity Command of Chom Chao 3 Commune, led by Commune Chief Va Savon, Deputy Commune Chief Suth Socheat, and their working team, conducted an operation to impound heavy-duty container trucks that were parked in rows along National Road 4 in Angk village. These vehicles have been causing daily traffic disruptions, despite numerous directives and notifications. Va Savon stated that the location serves as a pier for unloading container goods. Daily, these container trucks would park in two rows, with some even violating traffic direction, leading to daily congestion. This also obstructs the storefronts of nearby shops, preventing vendors from conducting their business. He further explained that the Commune and District administrations had issued many recommendations and official notices regarding this issue. Authorities had previously impounded some vehicles for a period, returning them later. However, the drivers of these trucks have continued to defy instructions, prompting the current operation to seize vehicles parked on the roadside that cause disturbances, for temporary storage to facilitate further agreements. The Commune Chief clarified that the impounded vehicles would not be subject to fines, but would be held as a measure to secure an agreement preventing such parking practices in the future.
