Magnitude 5.8 Mindoro offshore quake felt in Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines (Updated 11:46 p.m.) — A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck off Occidental Mindoro on Friday morning, with shaking felt as far as parts of Metro Manila and nearby provinces. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology located the tectonic earthquake 21 kilometers southwest of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro. It struck at 10:38 a.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers. The quake was felt in Makati and Mandaluyong in Metro Manila, although PHIVOLCS has yet to release reported intensity levels as of its initial bulletin. Social media users also reported ground shaking in Malate in Manila; Marinduque; San Pablo, Laguna; Nasugbu, Batangas; Tiaong, Quezon; and Balatero Port in Oriental Mindoro. PHIVOLCS said damage was not expected, but aftershocks were possible.
