10 Junta troops surrender in Myaing battle, video record released by PDF

A video record of 10 junta troops surrendering after resistance coalition forces attacked a column of the junta troops that was advancing into Agyi Taw village, Myaing Township, Mandalay Region, was released by the People's Defence Force (PDF) General Headquarters yesterday (July 4). The video shows scenes of PDF members urging junta troops to surrender, and the junta troops who surrendered. The PDF General Headquarters stated, "This is a record of comrades welcoming those who surrendered to the People's Defence Force, as they no longer wish to die as human shields for Min Aung Hlaing." The Ministry of Defence of the National Unity Government (NUG) and the PDF General Headquarters have announced that they will treat those who surrender and prisoners of war with humanitarian consideration. "The People's Defence Force is fighting to build a new country that is not like the enemy, and those who surrender and prisoners of war will be treated with humanity," the statement said. It is known that this battle occurred on the morning of July 2, when resistance coalition forces ambushed a column of about 110 troops led by Deputy Police Major General Zaw Win Htein from Police Battalion (8), Company (1). According to Ko Soe Aung, the commander of Regiments (4) and (10) in Myingyan District, seven junta troops were seen killed during the battle, and no less than 35 were injured, with 10 surrendering. He said that the highest rank among those who surrendered was Sergeant Major, and it has not yet been confirmed which ranks were among the deceased. The PDF General Headquarters announced that during the battle, various weapons, including rocket launchers, totaling 20, as well as drones and related equipment, and a large number of ammunition were seized from the junta troops. Furthermore, although the junta troops received air support from two Mi-35 attack helicopters, the resistance coalition forces were able to attack and defeat the column. The statement indicated that this operation was jointly carried out by regiments under the command of PDF Mandalay Region Command and Myingyan District Command, Battalion (2) of Mitthila District, Myingyan District People's Defence Force, Naungchoiji Township People's Defence Force, and Myaing Township People's Defence Force/TTA guerrilla forces.
