Sara Duterte Impeachment Trial: Witness Testimony Continues Amid Funds Misuse Allegations

The impeachment trial of Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte enters its 13th day with the continued testimony of former state auditor Roderick Wamil. Wamil, who is on his third consecutive day on the witness stand, is expected to address allegations of misuse of funds, specifically under Article 1 of the impeachment articles. The allegations concern P612.5 million in funds, with P500 million from the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and P112.5 million from the Department of Education (DepEd). Following Wamil's testimony, the prosecution plans to present a new witness, state auditor Xylene Del Campo from the Commission on Audit-Intelligence and Confidential Funds Audit Office (COA-ICFAO). However, impeachment court spokesperson Regie Tongol stated that Del Campo's testimony will cover fewer matters compared to Wamil. "Ms. Del Campo will testify on fewer documents, and she will mostly authenticate certifications," Tongol explained. Tongol also noted that Del Campo has been qualified as a reserve witness by the prosecution panel. Both parties have a general reservation of reserve witnesses, but the exact number remains undisclosed. The trial continues to draw public attention regarding the use of public funds by the Vice President.
