Most ASEAN Countries Have a Positive Stance Towards Myanmar

Most ASEAN member states have a friendly relationship and a positive attitude towards Myanmar, viewing it as a close friend, said Union Minister of Foreign Affairs U Tin Maung Swe. Union Minister U Tin Maung Swe made these remarks while clarifying a proposal urging the government to review and act on five ASEAN statements during the 7th day of the 2nd regular session of the 3rd Pyidaungsu Hluttaw held on July 9. It is said that after the new government took office, foreign ministers from ASEAN member states such as Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Laos have visited Myanmar, and foreign ministers from other ASEAN member states are also scheduled to visit. Union Minister U Tin Maung Swe said that an informal meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers is scheduled to be held in the near future, and a delegation led by the Union Minister of Foreign Affairs is scheduled to attend as Myanmar has been invited. He also said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will strive to restore normal relations with ASEAN in a Myanmar-led, Myanmar-own way that suits the country, based on the actual situation in Myanmar, in accordance with the directives of the Head of State and the policies set by the State, without compromising Myanmar's national interests and sovereignty.
