Cambodia Strengthens Support for Veterans and Retirees with Administrative Training

Kampong Thom province, Cambodia – On July 22, 2026, the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association in Kampong Thom province organized a training course focused on administrative work and the disbursement of death benefits to its members. The training aimed to enhance the efficiency and timeliness of services provided to veterans and retirees. The training session saw the participation of 226 individuals from various levels, including commune, sangkat, district, and provincial committees. It was presided over by H.E. Ou Sok, Deputy Secretary-General and high representative of H.E. Deputy Prime Minister General Kun Kim, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association, at the Kampong পরমাণ Provincial Operations Command. Major General Saom Son, Commander of the Kampong Thom Provincial Operations Command and Standing Vice Chairman of the Association’s provincial committee, delivered a welcoming report. He provided an update on the current number of veterans and retirees under the association's care in Kampong Thom, totaling 6,741 individuals. This figure comprises 4,031 veterans and retirees, and 2,710 retired civil servants and those who have lost their work capacity. In the first half of 2026, death benefit payouts were disbursed to the families of 68 deceased veterans, amounting to 272 million Riel (approximately $68,000 USD). Additionally, social security guarantees were provided to 58 families, totaling 731,931,000 Riel (approximately $182,982 USD). Over the past decade, the province has facilitated the construction of 547 houses for veterans. Of these, 241 were built within the Techo Bodhi Human Heritage Veterans Development Center, while 306 houses were constructed for veterans in various local areas who owned land but had inadequate housing. Furthermore, 281 hectares of social land concessions have been allocated. H.E. Ou Sok commended Major General Saom Son and the Kampong Thom Provincial Committee for their diligent efforts in addressing the difficulties faced by veterans, recognizing Kampong Thom as a model province nationwide. He urged all participants from various committee levels to pay close attention during the training to acquire the necessary knowledge for effectively serving veterans with efficiency and punctuality. H.E. Ou Sok further emphasized that each level of the Veterans and Retirees Association must meticulously manage the statistics and lists of all 6,741 veterans and retirees in Kampong Thom. He stressed the importance of direct home visits to members, both veterans and retirees, to foster closeness, understand their well-being, and expedite support services. During the event, H.E. Kim Chansolina, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation and Standing Member of the Central Committee of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association, delivered a lecture on administrative procedures and general documentation for the disbursement of death benefits to the families of deceased veterans and retirees.
