Japanese Firm Minebea Continues Investment Expansion in Cambodia Amid Border Dispute

Japanese electronics components manufacturer Minebea is set to further expand its investments within Cambodia, despite the ongoing border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand. The company's CEO, Yoshihisa Kainuma, asserted that while the border conflict may have some impact on logistics, it does not affect Minebea's business operations. Kainuma's remarks were made during a working meeting with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen at the Senate building in Phnom Penh on the morning of July 28, 2026. According to Senate spokesperson Chea Thireth, the CEO reaffirmed Minebea's strong footing in Cambodia and its commitment to continued investment. Minebea currently operates two factories in Cambodia, one in the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone and another in Poipet province, where the company is also developing a solar power plant. These facilities have created numerous job opportunities for Cambodian citizens. Kainuma described investment in Cambodia as "trustworthy" and expressed no concerns regarding the border dispute with Thailand. Following Kainuma's report, Senate President Hun Sen expressed his pleasure with the Japanese firm's progress, noting that despite some challenges, the company has not suffered significant repercussions. He further stated that the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute has not severely impacted investment or operations, and he welcomed the company's desire for further investment expansion. Hun Sen added that he encourages Japanese investors to continue trusting the Cambodian government, which is committed to further improving the investment climate.
