Noi Bai Airport Implements New Traffic Management to Ease Congestion
Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport will implement a new traffic management scheme around passenger terminals T1 and T2 starting August 3rd. Aimed at reducing congestion and improving operational efficiency as per the Prime Minister's directive, the plan involves reorganizing pick-up/drop-off zones and parking areas by vehicle type.
Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi will implement a new traffic management scheme around its passenger terminals T1 and T2 starting August 3rd at 7 AM. This initiative, in line with directives from the Prime Minister, aims to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance operational efficiency within the airport premises. The revised plan synchronizes the road systems for both T1 and T2 terminals. Pick-up and drop-off zones on different levels are being reorganized, alongside a redesign of parking lots P1 through P9. Numerous regulations concerning pick-up/drop-off locations, lane divisions, and stopping/parking durations will be adjusted, specifically tailored for individual vehicles, taxis, ride-hailing services, and commercial transport. At Terminal T2, the arrival hall on the first floor will be divided into six traffic lanes based on vehicle types. Personal vehicles under 9 seats, priority vehicles, franchised taxis, public buses, shuttle buses, and crew transport vehicles will operate in designated areas. Vehicles for commercial transport not licensed by the airport and those with 9 or more seats will be prohibited from picking up passengers in front of the terminal lanes, requiring them to follow designated routes or use corresponding parking lots. The departure hall on the third floor of T2 will feature fixed central dividers to separate traffic flows from the directions of Nhat Tan Bridge and Thang Long Bridge. This area is organized into five traffic lanes by vehicle group, with vehicles allowed to stop for passenger drop-off for a maximum of 5 minutes. Drivers must remain within 2 meters of their vehicles during this time. Similarly, the arrival hall on the first floor of Terminal T1 will be reorganized with dedicated lanes for personal vehicles, franchised taxis, priority vehicles, vehicles with 9 or more seats, and commercial transport. Non-franchised commercial vehicles under 9 seats and those with 9 or more seats must pick up passengers at parking lot P2 via a separate route and are not permitted to enter the passenger pick-up areas. Personal vehicles under 9 seats can pick up passengers in area P1 for a maximum of 5 minutes. The departure hall on the second floor of T1 will have rigid dividers and four traffic lanes, separating vehicles based on their approach direction from Nhat Tan Bridge and Thang Long Bridge. Commercial transport vehicles under 9 seats are restricted from lanes designated for the Nhat Tan Bridge direction, while vehicles with 9 or more seats cannot enter lanes for the Thang Long Bridge direction. As with T2, drop-offs are limited to 5 minutes, and drivers must stay within 2 meters of their vehicles. Noi Bai Airport stated that the new traffic management system is scientifically allocated by vehicle type, with separate parking areas, to optimize traffic space, reduce localized congestion, and improve convenience for passengers. The airport advises passengers and drivers to proactively update themselves on the new traffic flow instructions and comply with lane, location, and time regulations for smooth travel.
