Thousands of Jakarta residents flocked to the "Apel Kebangsaan Jaga Jakarta untuk Indonesia" (National Assembly to Guard Jakarta for Indonesia) held at Monas Square, Jakarta, on Saturday (8/8), seeking free health check-ups and essential food supplies. CNNIndonesia.com observed that the health check-up tents were crowded, with residents queuing for their turn. A variety of medical services were available, including eye examinations, free reading glasses, dental checks, physiotherapy, general practitioner consultations, and a pharmacy. In addition to free health services, the assembly also organized social service activities such as the distribution of basic necessities (sembako) and food. Similar to the health checks, residents queued to exchange their coupons. The event was attended by the Kapolda Metro Metro Jaya (Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief) Komjen Pol Asep Edi Suheri and Pangdam Jaya (Jaya Regional Commander) Letjen TNI Deddy Suryadi. Approximately 11,000 participants from various community elements, including social organizations, motorcycle taxi drivers, students, laborers, and security guards, attended the assembly. Participants read a declaration affirming their commitment to keeping Jakarta safe, orderly, peaceful, and comfortable as a shared home for all citizens and a showcase of Indonesia to the world. The declaration also emphasized unity in diversity, rejection of provocation and intolerance, strengthening cooperation between the government, military, police, business sector, communities, youth, and all citizens, protecting the younger generation from drugs and radicalism, and a resolve to advance Jakarta and make Indonesia sovereign, just, and prosperous through discipline, care, tolerance, and national spirit.
