Construction gravel prices rise in Yangon market due to reduced imports and high demand

In the Yangon market, prices for construction gravel are rising due to reduced imports and high demand, according to the Yangon Region government. In response to a question about how prices will be controlled, given that river gravel for construction in Yangon Region is more expensive than in Mandalay and Naypyidaw, the Yangon Region government responded as follows: It is understood that gravel is produced from gravel pits in Bago Region, around Pyay, and in Ayeyarwady Region, around Myan Aung, and is transported to the Yangon market. Recently, gravel pits in Bago Region have been closed, leading to a decrease in gravel imports into the Yangon market. The Yangon Region government stated that although there are vehicles to transport gravel, prices are rising because gravel is not being produced. In the Yangon brick and gravel market, the delivery price for one truckload of river gravel is around 460,000 kyats, and the market price for 1.5 truckloads of river gravel is around 680,000 kyats. In Mandalay and Naypyidaw, the delivery price for one truckload of river gravel is only around 160,000 kyats.
