Ho Chi Minh City Eastward Gateway Snarls for 5km After Truck's Glass Cargo Spills

On the afternoon of September 19, a truck carrying glass lost its load on Vo Chi Cong Street, near the Phu Huu intersection, causing a 5km traffic jam in Ho Chi Minh City's eastern gateway. This area, a crucial link to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, usually sees heavy traffic, especially on weekends as people travel to Vung Tau and Phan Thiet. The incident occurred about an hour before the jam, when the securing ropes on a truck carrying dozens of glass sheets broke. The glass fell across two lanes of traffic. Authorities had to set up warning signs from afar and direct vehicles to avoid the broken glass. This led to vehicles inching forward, with long lines of cars, including container trucks, struggling to pass the Phu Huu intersection. Vo Chi Cong Street connects the Cat Lai port complex and the former District 7, areas with high vehicle density. The accident compounded the existing congestion. Traffic was also backed up for over 4km from the Long Phuoc toll station to the Long Truong toll station, heading towards Dong Nai.
