Da Nang Actively Responds to Prolonged Heavy Rainfall, Prioritizing Evacuation and Infrastructure Repair

As of September 12, Da Nang City in central Vietnam is facing the expansion of damage caused by prolonged heavy rainfall, focusing its efforts on resident evacuation and infrastructure restoration. Specifically, in Tra Giap commune and Hoa Vang district, military units are actively supporting the prompt relocation of residents from areas with a high risk of landslides. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to identify and monitor hazardous points and carry out emergency repairs to infrastructure. This heavy rainfall is affecting central and northern mountainous regions of Vietnam, with water levels expected to rise on the Dong Nai River. Heavy rains in the central region are predicted to continue for an extended period, with the situation potentially becoming more complex. In Da Nang, the first body was recovered from the landslide site in Hung Son commune. In the same area, an emergency response involved using hammocks, rather than stretchers, to transport three patients from isolated areas affected by the landslide. Significant soil and rock erosion continues to occur from the hillsides in Hung Son commune. Vietnam, while experiencing economic growth under its one-party system, has recently seen frequent extreme weather events attributed to climate change, making infrastructure development and disaster preparedness urgent priorities. Particularly in its relationship with China, while economic ties deepen, geopolitical tensions also exist, emphasizing the importance of domestic stability and development.
