Tanker Overturns, Killing 7 in South Kalimantan, Indonesia

A tragic traffic accident occurred in Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan, Indonesia, where an oil tanker lost control and collided with a pickup truck carrying students, resulting in seven fatalities. The incident took place on Saturday (August 1) on the Trans Kalimantan Road in Satui District. PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Kalimantan confirmed that the vehicle involved in the accident was not registered as a Pertamina operational fleet and had no record of service activities at a Pertamina terminal. "We continue to coordinate with relevant parties to ensure information regarding the vehicle. The handling and investigation process is entirely entrusted to the authorities," said Edi Mangun, Area Manager of Communication, Relations & CSR for Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Kalimantan, in a statement on Sunday (August 2). Previously, an oil tanker truck collided with a pickup truck carrying students on a KKN (Community Service Program) trip on the Batulicin-Banjarbaru alternative road in Gunung Raya Village, Mantewe District, Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan. The accident resulted in seven deaths. Quoting Detik, the incident occurred on Saturday (August 1) around 12:00 PM local time. The Head of the Mantewe Police, AKP Kusnin, stated that the accident began when the tanker truck, driven by MI, lost control while traveling from Banjarbaru towards Batulicin. It then hit the pickup truck carrying KKN students who were heading to a tourist spot. The collision was unavoidable. Of the eight victims, seven died, and one was rescued and referred to Marina Hospital in Tanah Bumbu Regency. The victims included the tanker driver, identified as MI, and university students MR (20), ACG (21) from Lambung Mangkurat University; NIJ (22), NAS (21), VAS (22) from Nahdlatul Ulama University (UNU) Kalsel; and a youth community member TMA (21). "It is true that seven people died as a result of the traffic accident on the bypass road in Gunung Raya Village, Mantewe," Kusnin said on Saturday (August 1) afternoon. "A total of eight victims, seven deceased including the truck driver, and one survivor from Lambung Mangkurat University, identified as MFH."
