Thailand Boosts Rooftop Solar for Households to Cut Costs and Increase Income

The People's Power Party (Bhumjaithai Party), a key coalition partner in Thailand, has expressed strong support for a household rooftop solar panel installation project, highlighting its role in reducing citizens' living costs and increasing their income. Thanakhon Wangboonkongchana, a party-list Member of Parliament and former Industry Minister, stated that the project is one of the significant policies championed by Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. He emphasized that it aims to alleviate the financial hardships faced by citizens amidst current economic fluctuations and to establish a foundation for clean energy in the country's future. The initiative plans to provide a subsidy of 50,000 baht per household for one million households, with an estimated budget of approximately 75 billion baht. Through this project, households are expected not only to reduce their electricity bills but also to potentially earn an additional income of around 1,650 baht per month by selling surplus electricity. The lifespan of solar panels is estimated to be 25-30 years, and inverters 10-15 years. Key eligibility criteria for the project include being a farmer customer of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC), being a residential electricity consumer, having a suitable meter and installation site that meets standards. Thanakhon further stressed that Deputy Prime Minister Anutin has clearly instructed relevant agencies to proceed with the project carefully and expeditiously, demonstrating the Bhumjaithai Party's commitment to fulfilling its election promises and acting in the best interest of the people.
