Vietnamese Legislator Meets Korean Conglomerate Leaders to Boost Economic Ties

National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man met with leaders of major Republic of Korea conglomerates, including Samsung, SK, LG, and Lotte, during his official visit to the country on September 8. The discussions focused on strengthening economic cooperation between Vietnam and South Korea. Specifically, proposals were made to expand joint research programs in strategic areas where Vietnam has development needs and Korean institutions like KIST have strengths, including semiconductor integrated circuits, AI, batteries, energy storage, and biotechnology. President Tran Thanh Man highlighted that this visit, at the invitation of RoK National Assembly Speaker Cho Jeong Sik, was the first official visit by a foreign delegation with representation from Vietnam's Party, National Assembly, Government, and localities. He also met with Moon Jin Seok, Chairman of the Korea-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group, to discuss deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. Relations between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea are developing strongly, underpinned by an increasingly solid political foundation. Cooperation is deepening across economic ties, science and technology, parliamentary cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges. The interconnectedness of trade, investment, and production is growing, with expanding supply chains and new investments opening up opportunities for higher-value production and stronger links between businesses. President Man's visit to the Republic of Korea takes place at a time when bilateral relations are progressing steadily. Vietnam consistently attaches importance to its relations with the RoK and desires bilateral ties to continue growing substantively, effectively, and sustainably in line with their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. On September 6, President Man also met with over 70 prominent figures, intellectuals, and representatives from associations, people’s organizations, businesses, and NGOs from the Republic of Korea operating in Vietnam.
