Vietnam Enhances Legal Aid to Protect Rights of Vulnerable Groups

Vietnam is focusing on enhancing its legal aid system to strengthen the protection of legal rights for vulnerable groups, including the poor, disabled, ethnic minorities, children, and victims of domestic violence. This initiative is based on the recognition that legal assistance serves not only as support but also as a crucial anchor for these individuals to confidently defend their legitimate rights and interests. The project "Enhancing Legal Aid for the Poor and Vulnerable Groups" has reaffirmed the importance of such support. Moving forward, the aim is to further expand the scope of legal aid to ensure that more people in need can access assistance. While Vietnam experiences economic growth, supporting those facing income disparities and social vulnerabilities remains a significant challenge. Within its one-party system, where maintaining social stability is paramount, legal aid is also positioned as a vital tool for mitigating social discontent and promoting the rule of law. Particularly in rural and ethnic minority areas, issues such as limited access to information and a lack of legal knowledge persist, necessitating the development of a specialized support system tailored to local realities. The government plans to improve the professionalism, modernization, and accessibility of the legal aid system, alongside refining relevant legal frameworks.
