Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn received Ambassador Stefan Messerer on July 29, concluding the diplomat’s four‑year mission, the foreign ministry said. Talks focused on strengthening bilateral ties and commemorating six decades of relations, with opportunities highlighted in trade, investment, education, agriculture, energy, tourism and people‑to‑people exchanges. Prak Sokhonn congratulated Messerer on his tenure and the award of the Royal Order of Sahametrey, Grand Cross, for his role in advancing ties. He cited the German president’s 2023 visit, the opening of an honorary consulate in Siem Reap and the appointment of Germany’s first military attaché to Cambodia as milestones. He also noted Germany’s support for socio‑economic development, including healthcare, culture, education, rural development, poverty reduction, mine clearance and exchanges. Sokhonn briefed the ambassador on recent Cambodia–Thailand border developments.Messerer thanked Cambodian authorities for their cooperation, describing relations as open and constructive, and reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to expanding collaboration. Prak Sokhonn said Cambodia would continue to support the incoming German ambassador in efforts to elevate the partnership.
