Vietnam, Panama hold 2nd political consultation to deepen bilateral ties

Vietnam and Panama held their second political consultation in Panama to further deepen the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries. Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Giang highly valued Panama's role and position in Latin America and expressed his hope for strengthening bilateral ties. Giang emphasized that both countries, with their strategic geographical locations, could serve as gateways linking the economies of ASEAN and Latin America, thereby enhancing economic connectivity between the two regions. Progress in agricultural cooperation was also confirmed during the consultation. The two nations have steadily built cooperative relations since establishing diplomatic ties over 50 years ago. Vietnam appears to be aiming to expand its access to Latin American markets and diversify economic cooperation through strengthening ties with Panama. This is seen as part of Vietnam's diplomatic strategy to diversify export markets and enhance its international presence amidst its continued economic growth. Vietnam also actively participated in multilateral dialogues on nuclear non-proliferation held in Panama, fulfilling its role as a responsible member of the international community. Under its one-party system, Vietnam prioritizes economic growth while pursuing a diversified foreign policy. Strengthening ties with South American nations holds significant importance for expanding Vietnam's diplomatic options, especially amidst complex relations with China.
