Cambodia Seeks Enhanced Economic Cooperation with Romania, Eyes European Supply Chain

His Excellency Chea Chanboribo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Romania, met with Mr. Engineer Iuliu Stocklosa, President of the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB), to promote further expansion of economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries. During the meeting, both sides exchanged extensive views on strengthening economic, trade, and investment relations between Cambodia and Romania, with a particular emphasis on establishing direct connections between the chambers of commerce, enterprises, and the private sector of both nations. His Excellency Chea Chanboribo highlighted that Cambodia and Romania share a long-standing traditional friendship. In the current global economic context, he emphasized the importance of transforming this good friendship into economic cooperation that yields tangible benefits for both countries. He also pointed out that a key agenda item discussed was exploring the possibility of establishing a supply, import, storage, and distribution network for Cambodian food products and goods, utilizing Romania as a hub to supply Cambodians living, studying, and working in various European countries. This initiative aims to make it easier for Cambodians in Europe to access products from their homeland at reasonable prices, while also expanding the market to European consumers interested in Asian agricultural products and food. Potential products include rice, Kampot pepper, cashew nuts, dried fruits, processed agricultural products, spices, sauces, instant noodles, Khmer cuisine, and other consumer goods in demand within the Cambodian community in Europe. The Ambassador stated that cooperation with the CCIB and the Romanian business network could help connect Cambodian producers and exporters with importers, warehouses, logistics companies, distributors, and retail networks in Europe. He noted that this could be a step towards establishing a stable and developable Cambodian-European product supply chain. Beyond serving the needs of the Cambodian community, the long-term goal is to promote high-quality Cambodian products more broadly in the European market, increase exports, create new markets for Cambodian farmers and enterprises, and elevate the "Made in Cambodia" brand in the international arena. Concurrently, the Ambassador also touched upon Cambodia's potential as a connecting point for Romanian businesses to the ASEAN market. Romania, as a member of the European Union, could be a potential partner in linking Cambodian products and enterprises to European market networks. His Excellency Chea Chanboribo and Mr. Iuliu Stocklosa also discussed potential sectors for cooperation, including agriculture and agro-industry, food processing, trade, tourism, technology, industry, energy, transportation, education, and vocational training. The Ambassador encouraged the CCIB to help disseminate information about Cambodia's business environment, economic potential, and investment opportunities to its members and business networks. He also urged the promotion of business delegation exchanges and the organization of Business-to-Business (B2B) meetings between companies of both countries. He added that Mr. Mihai Andritoiu, Cambodia's Honorary Consul in Romania, plays a crucial role in connecting the embassy with the Romanian business community, facilitating relations between companies of both nations, and driving cooperation initiatives towards practical implementation. According to the Ambassador, this meeting reflects Cambodia's promotion of economic diplomacy, not only focusing on attracting investment but also on finding new markets for Cambodian products, building distribution networks in Europe, and connecting products from Cambodian farmers and enterprises to the Cambodian community and European consumers. "The ultimate goal is to transform the Cambodia-Romania friendship into a measurable economic partnership through trade, investment, business linkages, and broader access for Khmer products to European markets," the Ambassador emphasized.
