Vietnam-RoK Economic Ties Enter New Phase with Focus on Semiconductors, AI, Green Energy
Vietnam and South Korea are deepening economic ties, with trade, investment, and production becoming increasingly interconnected. Cooperation is expanding in high-tech sectors like semiconductors, AI, and green energy, fostering higher-value production and stronger business links.
Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) are entering a new phase in their economic relationship, marked by increasing interconnectedness in trade, investment, and production. The cooperation between the two economies is broadening in both scale and scope, extending beyond a growing trade relationship and expanding supply chains to encompass new investments in cutting-edge sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and green energy. This expansion is expected to create opportunities for higher-value production and foster stronger links between businesses in both countries. Furthermore, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam has called for greater contributions from Vietnam's innovation network and experts within the RoK. This highlights Vietnam's emphasis on leveraging South Korea's advanced knowledge and technology to drive its own scientific and technological development. Vietnam, under its one-party system, prioritizes economic growth and actively seeks foreign investment. South Korea is a key investor in Vietnam, and the deepening economic ties are crucial for strengthening Vietnam's economic position in the Southeast Asian region. In the context of complex relations with China, Vietnam's enhanced economic cooperation with South Korea can also be seen as a strategy to diversify its supply chains and ensure economic stability.
