Calculations and planning are underway to determine an appropriate electricity generation mix (Generation Mix) based on domestic electricity and energy resources, said Union Minister U Ko Ko Lwin of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy. He made these remarks at a workshop held on July 15 at the Horizon Lake View Resort in Nay Pyi Taw, which aimed to significantly increase the participation of solar power systems in the country's electricity supply. The Union Minister stated that sufficient electricity supply is extremely important for the nation's development and the improvement of the socio-economic lives of the people. He noted that the country's electricity generation relies mainly on hydropower and natural gas resources. He explained that in addition to the challenges faced by hydropower generation due to climate change, the instability of global energy prices has become a long-term consideration for the nation's energy security. He added that his ministry is calculating and planning to determine an appropriate electricity generation mix for the country based on domestic electricity and energy resources. Furthermore, he said that "solar energy" is abundant due to the country's geographical location and has a shorter project period compared to other power generation systems. Therefore, the ministry is supporting the integration of solar systems into the national grid in an appropriate proportion, and also the installation and use of Solar Home Systems by individuals or groups according to their own plans, through these two methods. He expressed that by collectively advising, discussing, and seeking solutions to the current technical limitations and management difficulties at today's workshop, beneficial and effective plans and projects will be rapidly realized. He emphasized the need to utilize solar power generation systems efficiently and effectively. Following this, paper presenters and speakers attending the workshop provided explanations and discussions on their respective topics, and participants asked questions and engaged in discussions to clarify their understanding. A panel discussion was also held by experts and academics on the topic of "Accelerating the Development of Solar Energy in Myanmar and Maintaining the Stability and Reliability of the Electricity System." Subsequently, the Union Minister expressed his hope that by fully utilizing Myanmar's abundant solar energy resources for power generation, the nation can successfully move forward towards a future of energy sufficiency and green prosperity. It was learned that a total of 475 participants, including U Ko Ko Hlaing, Member of the Union Government Advisory Council, Deputy Ministers, heads of departments/enterprises under the ministry's supervision, experts from the Myanmar Engineering Council, the Federation of Myanmar Engineers, the Union of Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, officials from domestic and foreign companies cooperating in joint ventures, and specially invited guests and interested individuals, attended and discussed at the workshop.
