Cambodia Receives Official Security Assistance (OSA) from Japan

Cambodia's Ministry of National Defence has agreed to receive Official Security Assistance (OSA) from the Japanese government. This agreement is expected to further deepen security cooperation between the two countries. On July 19, 2026, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, General Tea Seiha, received a courtesy call from Japanese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Cambodia, Atsushi Ueno. During the meeting, appreciation was expressed for the cooperation during Ambassador Ueno's tenure in Cambodia. Following the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence General Tea Seiha and Ambassador Ueno signed an "Exchange of Notes." This exchange formally confirms Cambodia's receipt of Official Security Assistance (OSA) from the Japanese government. This OSA provision is anticipated to contribute to the enhancement of Cambodia's security capabilities and strengthen bilateral cooperation towards maintaining regional stability and peace. Japan has consistently provided a wide range of cooperation to Cambodia, including development and humanitarian aid. The current assistance in the security sector signifies a new phase in bilateral relations.
