Cambodia's Environment Ministry Tightens Industrial Wastewater Regulations, Blocking Over 15 Million Cubic Meters in July

The Ministry of Environment is actively taking measures to prevent the discharge of wastewater from factories, enterprises, and other pollution sources. In July 2026, a total of 2,270,285 cubic meters of wastewater were intercepted and prevented from flowing into natural water sources. Concurrently, the Ministry has managed wastewater to prevent its discharge outside business premises, preventing 73,235 cubic meters from affecting public and natural water sources nationwide. These achievements stem from the Ministry of Environment's ongoing efforts to enforce laws, prevent environmental pollution, and ensure the well-being of citizens, aligning with Pillar 1 of the Environmental Sector Strategy, which focuses on cleanliness (water, land, sky). The Ministry of Environment expresses its gratitude to the owners of companies, factories, and enterprises that have cooperated in implementing the law, installing automatic liquid waste monitoring devices, and participating in reducing the discharge of wastewater into natural water sources, aiming to protect public health and maintain cleanliness in Cambodia. It is noteworthy that 64 companies, factories, and enterprises have installed automatic self-monitoring devices for liquid waste discharge, as stipulated in Article 178 of the Law on Environment and Natural Resources. From January 2025 to the end of July 2026, the Ministry of Environment has prevented a total of over 35 million cubic meters (35,235,003 cubic meters) of wastewater from being discharged from companies, factories, and enterprises into natural water sources. In the first seven months of 2026 (January-July), over 15,160,730 cubic meters of wastewater were inspected and prevented from polluting the environment.
