Funeral and Merit-Making Ceremony for the Late Sayadaw U Janaka of Chamayay Raittha Held

The funeral and merit-making ceremony for the late Sayadaw U Janaka, the State Ovada Cariya of Chamayay Raittha, who passed away to Nibbana, was held on the afternoon of September 25 at the Chamayay Raittha monastery on Kambayay Pagoda Road in Maramgon Township, Yangon Region. The ceremony was graced by the presence of senior monks including the Chairman of the Shwekyin Nikaya, Maha Nayaka Dhamma Senapati, Solasa Ma Shwekyin Sasana Pyaing, State Ovada Cariya, Sayadaw Dr. Bhaddanta Ñāṇissara of Sitagu, and Sayadaws, the Vice Chairmen of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, Sayadaw of Shwebo and Sayadaw of Myitkyina. Also in attendance were the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, U Min Aung Hlaing, Union Ministers, the Chief Minister of Yangon Region, U Aung Naing Thu, responsible officials from various departments, responsible persons from Chamayay Raittha monastery, and devoted followers of Sayadaw U Janaka. To commence the ceremony, Namo Tassa was recited three times, followed by the collective recitation of the Chamayay resolution "Let us strive" and a Metta (loving-kindness) chant. Subsequently, homage was paid to the Triple Gem: the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Sangha. The venerable monks then recited and contemplated the three verses of Sangveda (contemplation) starting with "Sabbe Sankhara Anicca" (All conditioned things are impermanent). Following this, the State President U Min Aung Hlaing, Union Ministers U Khin Maung Yee and U Tin Oo Lwin, the Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Aung Naing Thu, and the Chairman of the Administrative Committee of Chamayay Raittha monastery, U Saw Hlaing, draped the mortal remains of Sayadaw U Janaka with a golden cloth in homage. Subsequently, the State President U Min Aung Hlaing and officials from the Union Government offered provisions to the attending Sayadaws and monks. After the offering of provisions, Aggañāṇa Sayadaw (Chamayay Thasi) read a brief biography of Sayadaw U Janaka, and Ashin Wannita Bhivamsa, the abbot of Sigyi Monastery at Mahavisuddharama New Monastery in Mandalay, recited the Maha Thera Gunapuja Sangavejanīya Gatha. Following this, attendees listened to a Dhamma talk on Sangveda from Sitagu Sayadaw Dr. Bhaddanta Ñāṇissara and shared merits by pouring water. Afterwards, the mortal remains of Sayadaw U Janaka were carried on a Karavika boat and transported by a motorcade to Suvannabhumi ground, where the crematorium is located, it was learned.
