Japan-Cambodia Cooperation Strengthened in Training, Agriculture, and Digital Industry

On the morning of September 10, 2026, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, granted a courtesy call and discussed work with His Excellency Takahashi Fumiaki, President of the Japan-Cambodia Association (JCA), and its delegation at the Peace Palace. During the meeting, JCA President Takahashi expressed his profound gratitude to Samdech Thipadei for always providing valuable time and allowing the JCA delegation to pay courtesy calls and discuss work successively. He reported to Samdech Thipadei on the activities of the current business mission, stating that JCA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the General Department of Administration of the Ministry of Interior to promote Japanese Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) operating in Cambodia, as well as plans to hold discussions with leaders of several relevant ministries and institutions to further strengthen cooperation. His Excellency emphasized JCA's high priority in strengthening cooperation with Cambodia on three pillars: vocational and technical training, agricultural development, and digital industry development. The JCA delegation also informed Samdech Thipadei about their direction for expanding investment activities, including: (1) processing of silkworms and tilapia to meet domestic market demand and for export to Japan and global markets, and (2) training related to beauty care and cosmetics, as well as cooperation with TOYOTA company in training car maintenance technicians. Furthermore, to further promote the Law on Investment of the Kingdom of Cambodia, JCA plans to organize a seminar in Japan in the near future to provide Japanese companies with an opportunity to gain a clearer understanding of Cambodia's investment environment, policy framework, and various incentives. In response, Samdech Thipadei thanked JCA for its efforts in promoting Cambodia's potential and attracting Japanese companies to invest in Cambodia successively. He expressed his delight at the positive developments in cooperation between Cambodia and JCA in the past. Samdech Thipadei expressed his firm belief that this good cooperation will continue to serve as a good model for attracting more investors from Japan to Cambodia in the future. Samdech Thipadei recalled the good cooperation between Cambodia and Japan in continuing to work together to transform the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port into a regional port and logistics hub. Through this good cooperation, Samdech Thipadei also expressed strong hope that the Cambodia-Japan Special Economic Zone will materialize in Cambodia and continue to grow in the future. Before concluding, Samdech Thipadei encouraged the JCA delegation to continue close discussions and cooperation with Cambodian relevant ministries and institutions to ensure the success of investments and cooperation between the two countries.
