Cambodia Cracks Down on Reckless Youth Motorcycle Behavior

On July 14, 2026, Colonel Yil Sophan, Inspector of Kosa Thien District Police, dispatched forces from the inspectorate and the Mahalap Administrative Police Post. Under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Khoeoi Phirith, who is in charge of public order affairs, a patrol and inspection for weapons and explosives was conducted at the target location near Prek Sanday Bridge in Damnak Prik Kert village, Mahalap commune, Kosa Thien district. At approximately 4:35 PM, two individuals were detained by the authorities. They were riding a black Wave motorcycle without a license plate. The driver was identified as Pov Lihor, male, 14 years old, residing in Kosa Chin Leu village, Kompong Reab commune. The passenger was Hong Sivlong, male, 17 years old, residing in Tuol Khtul village, Peam Preah Thnao commune, Kosa Thien district. These youths were found to be riding their motorcycles at speeds exceeding the limit and engaging in "joyriding" along the roads within Mahalap commune, Kosa Thien district. Both individuals were made to sign a contract for admonishment and were summoned with their guardians to act as guarantors. They were then educated and advised before being allowed to return home. The motorcycle has been temporarily confiscated and is being held at the Kosa Thien District Police Inspectorate, in accordance with the order from Mr. Keo Socheat, Prosecutor of the Kampong Cham Provincial Court.
