Yogyakarta Daycare Abuse Case: Suspects Rise to 32

Yogyakarta, Indonesia - Police have identified five new suspects in the child abuse case at the 'Little Aresha' daycare facility in Yogyakarta City, bringing the total number of suspects to 32. The new suspects include two caregivers, two kindergarten teachers, and one household staff member. Iptu Apri Sawitri, Head of the Women and Children Abuse Unit of the Yogyakarta City Police, stated that the five individuals were summoned for further investigation. "The focus of these suspects' examination is on what they did and what they knew. They had previously been questioned as witnesses," Sawitri said, as quoted by Antara on Tuesday (28/7/2026). Not all summoned suspects appeared for questioning, with one individual absent. "Only four people have come so far. The fifth person confirmed their attendance, but their legal representative could not accompany them today," Sawitri added. The police have not yet disclosed the initials of the five additional suspects, as the investigation is ongoing and an official announcement will be made after guidance from superiors. "Those who have come are cooperative. After the examination, there will be a case review, and then a decision on detention will be made," Sawitri explained. Previously, on April 25, 2026, 13 people were named suspects in the case of abuse and neglect of children at the daycare. Investigators continued to develop the case by questioning witnesses, including caregivers and employees, leading to 14 more individuals being elevated to suspect status.
